Assistant Professor in Women's Studies

The Department of Women's Studies at The Ohio State University is
expanding its faculty in several key areas. As a well-established and
growing program, we offer the largest and most comprehensive selection
of women's studies courses in the country. Our undergraduate program
offers a wide range of courses to more than 3,000 students each year,
and provides both an undergraduate major and minor. The M.A. program
enrolls students from around the world. OSU has a large community of
scholars committed to the study of women in a transnational
comparative context.
Currently, we are inviting applications and nominations for a
full-time tenure track appointment in Women's Studies at the rank of
Assistant Professor to begin September, 1997. The position calls for
a specialization in interdisciplinary transnational feminist cultural
studies with a comparative focus on Asian, Pacific, or Middle East
cultures. Desirable concentrations include but are not limited to:
transnational migration, health, human rights, environment,
development, technology, and political economy. Fields might include
but are not limited to: cultural anthropology, international and
comparative politics, South/Southeast Asian or Middle East area
studies, comparative and cultural studies, Women's studies, or other
disciplines with a comparative cultural focus.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. and a background in Women's Studies
that includes interdisciplinary preparation, along with extensive
theoretical and methodological training, fieldwork, and the capacity
to contribute substantively to feminist scholarship. A master's
degree, graduate certificate, or concentration in women's studies,
and/or teaching experience in women's studies, are desirable.
Teaching responsibilities entail core women's studies courses at the
undergraduate and graduate levels, including a large introductory
Women's Studies lecture course, as well as courses in the successful
candidate's area of expertise.
