As a co-parent of an only child, and through conversations with other
parents of only children the consensus seems to be that if we knew what
raising one child would be like we would have had at least two. This is a
practical resolution to the real parenting issues surrounding raising an
only child in an industrialized western country. So as not to contribute
to overpopulation, we have considered adoption, but there are other legal
and personal issues to consider.
When establishing a working ecofeminist philosophy in regard to dictating
how and when children should be raised, mothers should not be excluded
from the conversation. Otherwise, we will pass along similar problems as
outlined in "The Second Shift."
