Considering the multiple ecofeminist concerns that can be related to cancer, I think this is a potential avenue for exploring such points/ideas. Good luck to anyone who applies! If anyone has comments about the links between cancer, or health generally, and ecofeminism, please send them to the list. We'd love to hear from you!! Stefanie ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- INTERNATIONAL UNION AGAINST CANCER UNION INTERNATIONALE CONTRE LE CANCER (UICC) various fellowships available: UICC international cancer fellowships have something to offer to a wide group of qualified professionals who are active in the cancer field: investigators, physicians, social and behavioural scientists, cancer registrars, laboratory technicians, nurses. The international review process for the fellowships is rigorous, but those who have been successful (about 150 Fellows a year combined from all schemes) reap long-term benefit from the training and international exposure. 1 American Cancer Society Intl Fellowship for Beginning Investigators (ACSBI) The objective of these fellowships is to foster a bi-directional flow of knowledge, experience, expertise and innovation to and from the USA. They enable beginning investigators and clinicians, who are in the early stages of their careers to carry out basic or clinical research projects and to develop, acquire, and apply advanced research procedures and techniques in the areas of epidemiology, prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and psycho-oncology through twelve month long work periods abroad. Between 8-10 Fellows are selected each year for awards with an average value of US$30,000 for travel and stipend support. The first selection will take place in 1998 with an application closing date of 1 October 1997. Selection results are notified in mid-April the following year. 2 Yamagiwa-Yoshida Memorial (YY) International Cancer Study Grants The purpose of these grants is to enable cancer investigators from any country to carry out bilateral research projects abroad which exploit complementary materials or skills, including advanced training in experimental methods or special techniques. Candidates should be actively engaged in cancer research, with appropriate scientific or medical qualifications and recent publications in international peer-reviewed periodicals. About 15 grants with an average value for 3 months of US$9,000 are made annually. Grants are awarded for periods of 1-3 months.
