I am writing to you to request your assistance in the creation of a web
site that is designed to provide access to materials about the lives and
struggles of women in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and
the Pacific Ocean. It is our hope that we can establish a network
dedicated to the advancement of women in the Third World socially,
politically, and economically over the internet through sharing our
separate yet similar experiences on this vast informational forum.
Through this web site we would be able to find strength and support, as
well as useful information, to continue struggles occurring
simultaneously for and by women throughout the under-developed and
developing world.
The goal of this web site is to provide a forum and encourage the
exchange of ideas and information among women around the world about
their work and struggles to improve the quality of their lives and their
communities. Our focus is specifically on women outside North America
and Western Europe: women of the Third world, whose voices and
experiences to date are not well represented on the internet. The
emphasis is on material written by women living in Asia, Africa, Latin
America, the Middle East and the Pacific Ocean.
To this cause we are asking for you to send us web sites and email
addresses of women's organizations or individual women in the Third world
so that we can connect them to this network. We are also requesting
written materials such as position papers, articles, newsletters,
pamphlets, and other types of documents produced by individuals and
groups to publish on this web site. This web site is specifically
concerned with issues of development and the environment.
