Welcome to the Social Construction of Nature Listserve. The impetus for
this list came out of a 1997 Harvard University seminar on the growing
uncertainty of concepts like "nature," "environment," and "wilderness:"
uncertainty over what these concepts mean, their place in society, their
presence in other societies and in other times, and the like. That
uncertainty, initially expressed by academics, has become a controversial
topic among environmentalists and policy makers. It is my hope that this
list will provide an open forum for the discussion of what has come to be
called the "social construction of nature" and allied concepts.
This is a "public" listserve, meaning that anyone who wishes to subscribe
may do so. When you submit messages, please respect the views of others and
the norms of "netiquette." Messages are not monitored before they are
posted; however, I reserve the right to remove persons who consistently
violate these norms.
Finally, PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THIS MESSAGE. The material below gives you
