BRIDGELIST
This monthly digest has been set up by BRIDGE with funding
from the Special Programme Women in Development of the Netherlands
Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The BRIDGE (briefings on development and
gender) project is based at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), in
the UK.
BRIDGELIST will be moderated by the BRIDGE Information Officer.

AIMS
The principal aim of the BRIDGELIST is to encourage readers to comment
on the issues highlighted in the BRIDGE bulletin, in brief, and suggest topics
for future issues. In addition, the list aims to publicise additional resources and
sources of information related to the themes of the bulletin.
The BRIDGE bulletin, in brief, aims to raise gender awareness among
policy makers and practitioners. Drawing on BRIDGE reports and other
current literature, the bulletin provides succinct updates on specific
themes. Previous issues have covered the following: environmental
projects; poverty reduction strategies; conflict and development;
integrating gender into emergency responses; and approaches to
institutionalising gender. These are available on the Worldwide Web:

Future issues will explore gender aspects of economic reform and gender
awareness in the health sector. A readership survey conducted by
BRIDGE found that the most popularly requested themes included were:
policy/institutional factors; health (including HIV/AIDS); grassroots
politics, community development; adjustment globalisation; environment;
and small-scale enterprise, credit.
NEW SUBSCRIBERS - HOW TO PARTICIPATE
New subscribers are encouraged to submit a short introductory piece about
themselves. It would be useful to stick to the following format for
purposes of compiling a directory:

The current bulletin and a digest of participants' contributions received
during the past month will be posted monthly. You are encouraged to
comment on the issues raised, ask questions, or add your
experiences. Suggestions of themes to be covered in future editions are
very welcome as well as comments and additions to previous issues.

Participants or guest writers will be invited to submit some material
for comment occasionally. Material in the form of recent research
findings, on-going work, examples of successful initiatives, policies and
strategies to promote gender sensitivity relating to the themes covered in
the bulletin are welcome. Comments, additions and questions from
other BRIDGELIST participants are encouraged.
Cross-postings from other gender-focused discussion lists are welcome
where appropriate. Participants are also encouraged to respond directly to
other participants so please give contact details when submitting a
contribution.
