TITLE: Field Representative, Chicago Wilderness
SUPERVISOR: Conservation Biologist, Chicago Wilderness
LOCATION: Chicago, Illinois

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Field Representative works for the Chicago Region
Biodiversity Council and is based at The Nature Conservancy as a
part of the Conservancy's contribution to this region-wide, multi-
agency program. With the Conservation Biologist, the Field
Representative provides leadership to and participates in the
Chicago Wilderness teams and organizations. The position
requires flexibility and adaptability, and will change with the needs
of the overall collaboration. Initially the Field representative will:
(i) participate in initiatives designed to solidify the scientific and
strategic direction of Chicago Wilderness; (ii) maintain the
relationships developed with new constituencies; (iii) help energize
the Chicago Wilderness Teams and help pursue opportunities for
cross-Team collaborations; and (iv) lead through participation in
projects being developed by outreach and communications task
forces and other projects as needed and identified by the Steering
Committee and the Coordinating Group. The long term objective
is to help foster state-of-the-art conservation biology in planning,
action, review, and communications among the Chicago
Wilderness projects and through the multi-lateral work teams (the
teams for Science, Land Management, Education and Outreach,
and Policy and Strategy). The Field Representative reports to the
Conservation Biologist.
DUTIES;
1. Build and energize the Chicago Wilderness teams (and
pursue opportunities for cross-Team collaborations); help team
personnel develop clear focus on priority initiatives and carry their
efforts through to completion.
2. Assemble, motivate, and, as needed, provide direction and
participate in new and existing conservation initiatives (projects)
among the Chicago Wilderness member organizations.
3. Contribute to the conservation work of member
organizations to assure the continued generation by the teams of
excellent projects, and to assure that the Chicago Wilderness
program is meeting the needs of the member organizations.
4. Develop new programs and new components of existing
programs that engage new or broader constituencies in the
scientific, conservation, and education work of Chicago
Wilderness.
5. Participate in important outreach and communications
efforts, as identified by the Chicago Wilderness Steering
Committee and Coordinating Group.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. A graduate degree or at least two years successful work
experience in conservation biology, ecological restoration,
stewardship, or a related field.
2. A knowledge of conservation in northern Illinois.
3. Excellent communications skills.
4. A record of creative and collaborative work in conservation
or a related field.
5. Willingness to work on a flexible schedule including, at
times, long hours, evenings, and weekends as necessary.
