CALL FOR ANTHOLOGY SUBMISSIONS
Skin Trading:
Women, Complexion & Caste
This anthology will explore the significance of color-based and phenotypic
social and economic hierarchies in the lives of women from diverse cultural
backgrounds. Multidisciplinary articles examining the implications of skin
color as one of many markers of racial and ethnic phenotype, for Arab, Asian,
Black, Jewish, Native American or Latina women are especially encouraged.
Anthology topics will focus on the themes of gender, race, ethnicity, class
sexuality, from both academic and activist perspectives. Skin Tradin g is
chiefly concerned with the intra-racial and/or intra-ethnic expressions of
color-based aesthetic preferences as they are informed by either global or
intra/intercultural power dynamics. Submissions should be centered around one
or more of the following topics :
Politics of Race, Color, and Sexual Identity
Transformation of Color into Caste
Internalization: Inter/Intra-Racial/Ethnic Color Dynamics
Ethnic Erasure: Assimilation
Multiracial Politics
Please forward a brief abstract of your article topic, with a biography, at
your earliest convenience but no later than February 1, 1998. Completed
articles are needed by September 1, 1998. If you would like further
