JOB DESCRIPTION


TITLE:                          Marine Research Associate IV

REPORTS TO:             Associate Director, Coastal Resources Center

DEPARTMENT:             Graduate School of Oceanography

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIIES

As part of the Coastal Resources Center Field Unit, provide technical
assistance and training to developing country partners on fisheries,
estuarine ecology, and mariculture development within an Integrated Coastal
Management (ICM) context.  Manage activities implemented with government
agencies, universities, non-governmental institutions, and the private
sector.


QUALIFICATIONS

Masters degree in marine ecology or related field required as is a minimum
of four years of professional experience working with estuarine and
mariculture management field activities in developing countries and with
host country national counterparts on applied research projects linked to
site-based coastal management.  The following are also required:
demonstrated ability to summarize information and prepare documents that
communicate to a wide range of audiences the scientific basis of coastal
issues and their implications for management; familiarity with shrimp
mariculture issues; demonstrated organizational, training, public speaking
and cross-cultural communication skills; proficiency in computer systems
and software (word processing, databases) on both Macintosh and IBM
platforms; fluency in Spanish.  Must be willing to travel up to six months
annually.
