The graduate students of the Department of English at the University of
Nevada, Reno announce the interdisciplinary graduate student conference,
"Writing the Environment"
September 4-5, 1998
This graduate student conference will be held Friday, September 4, and
Saturday, September 5, at the University of Nevada, Reno. Graduate
students in all fields are welcome to participate.
The theme of this year's conference is "Writing the Environment," and the
conference will focus on topics including (but not limited to)
* Environments for writing
* Composition pedagogy
* Environmental rhetoric
* Language environments,
* Nature writing
* Writing in digital environments, dramatic environments,
or rhetorical environments.
Conference participants will address the ends and in-between spaces of the
writing-environment spectrum. From the spaces where writing occurs to the
places that writers convey, we will explore the interplay and interaction
of various texts and their creators.
We hope to explore the sites and boundaries where the two terms--one
seemingly subjective, the other objective--stand by themselves or in
relation to one another.
The conference will provide an opportunity for graduate students to
exchange and develop ideas, generate dialogue, advance new perspectives,
and present their work in a collegial setting. The general plan of the
conference will be to allow ample time to discuss the presentations,
workshops, and roundtable topics.
Abstracts should be addressed to "Conference Committee" and sent via email
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please note this schedule for submitting proposals for
(1) individual 20-minute presentations, (2) 60 minute panel presentations,
(limit 3 panelists) or (3) 45 minute roundtable discussions (limit 3
discussants).
June 1, 1998 Deadline for participants to submit conference proposals
July 1, 1998 Acceptance letters sent to participants
*** All papers must have full names, addresses, telephone numbers and
email addresses of all authors. (Panels should be listed in order of
appearance.) Please submit only one proposal per person.
