Hi everyone!

I am trying to find somei nformation on breast cancer and toxins.
Basically some info that supports the idea the cancer in general is 70
times more likely caused by outside effects such as the enviornment. If

APPALACHIA AND THE SOUTH: PLACE, GENDER, PEDAGOGY

Women in Appalachia and the U.S. South are often associated
with deeply rooted myths and conventions which are
obscured, challenged, and illuminated by contemporary
scholarship. This Special Issue, entitled "Appalachia and
the South: Place, Gender, Pedagogy," seeks contributions
which explore the unique position of women in Appalachia
and/or the southern U.S., the new populations, the older
gender, race and class-based political economies, or the
rehistoricization of the received wisdom of the past.
Other suggested topics include the following:

the role of women in public and private education
women's roles in public and private work
regional women artists & writers, including music,
drama, film, & dance
gendered ethnicity issues
   the changing labor market
    sustainable communities
    women and political action
    the new immigration
    the new New South
    women and religion
    the new spirituality
   health, wellness, and healing
    ecology, environment, sustainability
welfare systems and the urban poor
   regional studies: pedagogical issues
    media images
issues in Southern or Appalachian women's history
    Women's Studies in the South
    same-sex education in the South
ethics and values, old and new
women in the Civil Rights Movement
multiculturalism in the South or Appalachia
sexualities

The Special Issue is planned for Fall 1999 and will
highlight the centennial of the founding of Appalachian
State University in 1899. Deadline for 300 word abstracts
is Sept. 1, 1998, with complete papers due DECEMBER 1,
1998. For consideration, send three double-spaced copies
