Swordfish campaign swimming success
Five months after a group of prominent chefs appealed to consumers to =
give swordfish a break by not eating the overfished North Atlantic =
species until a recovery plan is assured, 200 chefs have stopped serving =
swordfish in their own restaurants. Several major cruise lines, =
including Royal Caribbean, Princess and Celebrity lines, have also =
stopped serving swordfish. The National Marine Fisheries Service =
official Rebecca Lent, who has criticized the campaign in the past, now =
says the agency is considering an increase in minimuym catch size, =
limits on fishing in nursery areas, and inclusion of discarded juvenile =
swordfish in the allowable catch count, measures advocated by the "Give =
