New U.S. dollar coin to honor Indian woman
A new dollar coin will feature the image of Sacajawea, the Shoshone =
Indian woman who helped guide the Lewis and Clark expedition to the =
Northwest, the Treasury Department said Wednesday. The coin, expected to =
go into circulation in 2000, will replace an existing $1 coin that bears =
the image of Susan B. Anthony, the 19th century women's' rights =
activist. The Susan B. Anthony coin never achieved wide popularity, in =
part because it resembled a quarter in size, color and feel. It was =
minted only from 1979 to 1981 but Treasury says it will be 2000 before =
