Whether wives choose to work in the workforce or to be home managers and/or raise children, most wives spend their time working. If women choose to raise a family, this involves so many skills that women are not often valued for. These skills include budgeting, home management, home economics, inter-personal relationship skills as well as any honorary work that housewives tend to take upon their shoulders to do. Many women nowdays re-enter the workforce after raising a family. There are also positive aspects to having extra time available from being a house wife. One can self-educate and become active in areas that will help the environment and human kind (including our children). Recently, a woman interviewed on the radio (currently a housewife) said that she needed her time to herself because she was an activist and organising her time at home allowed her to undertake her much needed activism without being denied this time by being tied down by a 9-5 paid job. One of the strangest things I have heard some women say to each other are "do you work?" I kicked myself recently when I slipped up and said the same thing to a lady. I apologised straight away. My own view is that we should recognise the worth of women and consider their opinions and qualities alongside those of men in our society. Whether women choose to work in a paid job or to work as wives and home managers is a personal choice and is up to the individual woman. Whatever the choice, it should be respected and valued. At the same time, women with abilities and skills who feel the need for a career should face no exploitation of glass ceilings. In my country, we don't have enough women in parliament or in big business or government. I would like to see that change for women have a lot to offer in these positions and their presence may help improve things for Planet Earth (especially if they are the type of women who don't sell out their principles to greed as is often the case with men).
