Special "gender" issue of IEEE Technology and Society

Call for papers

Papers on the relationship between gender and technology are sought for
a special issue of the journal, IEEE Technology and Society. Articles
should contribute to
an  understanding how gender arrangements influence and are influenced
by technological innovation. This includes, but is not confined to, the
following issues.
(a) the exclusion of women and women's lives from technological
training, development, and innovation:
(b) the exploitation of women's labor and Third World labor in the
production of technologies:
(c) the cooptation of technological achievement and capital by the West
and how this affects gender relations:
(d) the applications of technology that reinscribe men's domination of
women and the West's colonization of the Third World:
(e) and the liberatory potential of new technologies.

Papers should address original research or novel perspectives on any of
the above issues or other aspects of the gender and technology  relationship
and should be of interest to an IEEE Technology and Society audience.
Papers should be no more than 7000 words in length. The special issue
will be fully refereed and authors will be advised of editorial
decisions in spring 1999


Submission deadline: December 15, 1998
Refereeing process spring 1999
Final papers by August 1st. 1999
Publication date: late 1999
