Will - Regarding your rant on Ecofem about the people constantly doing - I
remember our e-mails in the past about this - about the Puritan work ethic - I
agree with a lot of what you are saying about too much already - all these
DO/DO attitudes - people busy marking up the world as you say - If you would
be interested in writing a short article about this, I would love to submit it
to my friends at X-press magazine and have them consider publishing it in
their magazine. It would be more then appropriate for the magazine. However,
they do not pay for articles - let me know.

I agree! Time for more men (and women for that matter) to shift gears, slow
down and tune into nature again! All this fast paced doing is silencing and
blinding us to nature around us and within us! Please consider writing the
article!

PEACE REVIEW: A Transnational Quarterly, is a multidisciplinary journal that
publishes essays in peace studies, broadly defined. Relevant topics include
war, violence, human rights, political economy, development, culture and
consciousness, the environment, gender, race, and related issues.
Each issue of Peace Review includes Essays devoted to our Issue Theme, as
well as Off-the-Theme Essays, Peace Profiles and Book Reviews.
We are soliciting On-Theme and Off-Theme Essays, Peace Profiles and Book
Reviews for the following Issues:

SPRING 1999: Media and Democratic Action
(deadline: 23 October 1998)
Is it possible to seize a democratic public sphere from the jaws of
transnational media conglomerates? PR calls for critical academics, media
activists, practitioners and producers to address issues such as: the
notion of "public interest," the role of public media systems in the
creation of a democratic public sphere, the role of media policy in helping
or hindering democracy, the dissemination of radical claims through
alternative, community and mainstream media, the education of media workers
re: democracy, and the utilization of information technologies for and
against democracy.
SUMMER 1999: IMAGES OF CLASS

FALL 1999: Alternative Security in Asia Pacific
(Deadline: 23 April 1999 approx.)

WRITER'S GUIDELINES
Peace Review publishes Essays, not Articles. They are intended for a wide
readership both inside and outside of academia and the peace movement. We
are looking for both research and perspectives on the cultural and political
issues surrounding the conflicts occurring between nations and peoples. WE
are a transnational journal (distributing to more than 40 nations), and
thus want to avoid speaking in the voice of any particular national culture
or politics.
We seek short (maximum 3500 words), readable, jargon-free essays.
Manuscripts (2 copies, double-spaced) should be sent on paper and on
computer disk (preferably IBM but MAC or ASCII text okay) OR by email
attachment to:

Include a 1-2 sentence professional biography of yourself, and your email
address, if available. Manuscripts and disks cannot be returned.
When writing your Essays, please observe the following:
(1) We need a short title--we do NOT run titles divided by a colon.
(2) We do not run figures or tables but can run drawings or photos.
(3) We do not run subheadings but we do make periodic breaks in the text
using drop-caps (in the style of literary journals). To indicate where you
would like breaks, skip an extra line in the text.
(4) We do not run footnotes or endnotes but we do print "Recommended
Readings" at the end of each essay, if the author so desires. It should be a
short list,
and appear in the following format:

All essays run in the journal will be thoroughly edited to meet our
requirements for style, length, and good English. We insist on lively,
active and well-crafted writing in the essays we publish. If you do not
provide it, our editorial process will. We cannot return your edited essay
for your approval, so the more editing you do, the fewer changes you will
see in print. All original essays that we publish become the copyright of
the Journal, unless otherwise specifically agreed.
Fifty offprints of each essay accepted for publication, together with a
complete copy of the relevant journal issue, will be sent to the senior
author.
We welcome correspondence, and will publish short letters. We also want to
recommend good new books, and distributors of good, progressive videos, and
will publish favorable reviews--not more than 1200 words for a single book,
no more than 3,500 for multiple books. We also publish "Peace Profiles"
comprised of short biographies of distinguished peace activists, broadly
defined, from around the world.
