Plan to kill Arctic geese outrages environmentalists

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Environmentalists recoiled in horror Tuesday at a
proposal to slaughter the populous snow goose to protect the "fragile"
Arctic tundra, slamming the government plan as an unnecessary spectacle of
blood. Millions of the birds descend on the tundra south of Canada's Hudson
Bay each spring. Some scientists believe the birds are laying waste to the
meager vegetation in the frozen North. Three environmental groups
challenged the contention by the U.S. and Canadian governments that the
tundra was an "ecosystem in peril" and are protesting the idea of
