ANNOUNCING H-WEST-AFRICA
H-NET LIST ON HISTORY, CULTURE, SCIENCE, AND DEVELOPMENT OF WEST AFRICA
Sponsored by
H-Net, Humanities & Social Sciences On-line, Michigan State University;
West African Research Association (University of Wisconsin, Madison);
West African Research Center (Dakar).

ENGLISH VERSION. H-WEST-AFRICA is dedicated to enhancing research,
service, and teaching in the field on the region of West Africa: its
history, culture, science and development. It seeks to bring together
-- for purposes of discussion, exchange of information, the conduct and
dissemination of research, and sharing on information and data about
teaching and learning -- students, scholars, professionals,
intellectuals, and others throughout the world who are interested in
the past, present and future of West Africa and the enhancement of
knowledge and understanding about the region. It will seek to develop
resources for the enhancement of that knowledge and understanding
everywhere, but particularly in West Africa and around West African
institutions of higher education.

In the coming years H-West-Africa will also play a significant role in
disseminating information about establishing connectivity systems which
permit e-mail and Internet access to more and more participants in West
Africa, with the best quality and the lowest cost.

The discussions and information will be expressed in two languages:
English and French. The editors will make appropriate brief summaries
of information in the other language, as well as providing table of
contents for each set of communications (weekly digest, bi-weekly
digest, etc.).

H-West-Africa is sponsored by the African Studies Center, Michigan
State University; the West African Research Association (Secretariat at
the University of Wisconsin, Madison), and the West African Research
Center (headquartered in Dakar). It is advised by a board of scholars.

The H-WEST-AFRICA list is co-edited by David Robinson, Professor of
Babou, doctoral student in History, MSU  <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>;
Ellen Foley, doctoral student in Anthropology, MSU
History, Columbia University <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; and Jeanne Toungara,
Associate Professor of History, Howard University
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.  Like all H-Net lists, H-WEST-AFRICA is
moderated to edit out material that, the editors' opinion, is not
germane to the list, involves technical matters (such as subscription
management requests), is inflammatory, or violates evolving, yet
common, standards of Internet etiquette.

Message logs and more information about H-WEST-AFRICA may be obtained
at its website, linked from the H-Net website:
