Assistant Professor, Comparative Studies
The Ohio State University at Newark is seeking an Assistant Professor in
Comparative Studies to begin September 1999. The Division is an
interdisciplinary unit with current emphases in comparative literature,
folklore, religious studies, and science studies.
Qualifications: Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a humanities discipline
with demonstrable teaching and research interest in folklore, particularly
Latina/o, African American or American Indian and should be able to teach
topics in world literature. Teaching experience at the college or university
level desired.
Duties: Teach folklore courses such as Studies in Folklore (focus on
Latino/a, African American, and American Indian folklore, with added
emphasis on Children's and Women's Folklore and Folklore of the Americas),
Studies in World Folklore (e.g., Genres of Folk Literature, Themes in World
Folklore, Material Culture). Teach courses in literary studies such as
Literature and Society, Literature and the Self, Love in World Literature,
Introduction to Comparative Literature. Conduct research and perform service
duties.
Terms: Full-time, 9 month, tenure track position with comprehensive co-pay
benefit package. Position begins Autumn Quarter 1999. Applicants must have
Ph.D. in hand by time of appointment.
Salary: $38,000-$42,000.
