Organic farming reduces greenhouse gases - study LONDON (Reuters) - American scientists have come up with a novel way of reducing greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming - organic farming. They say natural farming is not only healthy, but also good for the planet because crops grown with organic fertilizer produce equivalent yields and less carbon dioxide. Laurie Drinkwater, ecologist and soil management expert, and her colleagues compared organic farming with conventional methods using chemical fertilizers in a 15-year study. The researchers said if organic fertilizer was used in the maize/soybean growing region of the U.S. annual carbon dioxide in the atmosphere could be reduced by an estimated 1% to 2%.
