QUEER STUDIES SYMPOSIUM

interdisciplinary student conference
February 26 - 28, 1999
McMaster University
Hamilton, ON
Canada
This will be the second annual Queer Studies Symposium to be held at
McMaster University. Depending on the response we recieve, the Symposium
may take place the entire weekend of February 26-28, or simply Saturday
the 27th. The purpose of the symposium is to:
- to provide graduate and undergraduate students from diverse disciplines
who are doing work within the broader field of
lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer studies with an opportunity to
present and discuss their work
- to bring people from different institutions who are interested in this
area of study together to network and to exchange information and
experiences, for example, with regard to graduate programs, research
opportunities and funding, etc.
- to promote queer studies at McMaster University
- an effort will be made to invite and involve the local queer community,
which is supporting this event through a fundraiser
We invite presentations that reflect a diversity of disciplines,
positions, methodologies, and styles. Because of the interdisciplinary
focus of the symposium, we encourage work that combines scholarly
sophistication with general accessibility.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event. However, only undergraduate and
graduate students as well as recent graduates are invited to give
presentations, as this is a group of people who often have few
opportunities to present their work.
Deadline for submission of abstracts:
January 8, 1999
