Management Information Systems Manager  - (Marine Research 
Specialist  V) 


DEPARTMENT/LOCATION 
Coastal Resources Center, Graduate School of Oceanography, 
University of Rhode Island 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 
Responsible for assessing information service needs of the URI-
based Coastal resources Center in coordination with its 
international field project offices and external partners; identifying 
and purchasing the appropriate systems to meet those needs and 
training staff. Design searchable scientific databases and assist in 
the anlysis of research data. 


QUALIFICATIONS 
Marine Research Specialist V 

One of the following required:  (1) Masters degree in management 
information systems; (2) bachelor's degree in management 
information systems with two additional years of work experience 
within an organization's management information support services; 
(3) bachelor's degree in a physical, natural resource or social 
science and a minimum of four year's work experience with 
information and management systems.  The following are required 
of all candidates: experience in both Macintosh and IBM platforms; 
experience with the use, installation, and troubleshooting of 
problems with WORD, PageMaker, Excel, Filemaker Pro, 
EndNote, Powerpoint, Internet, Netscape software and with 
hardware consisting of desktop and laptop computers, scanners, 
printers, zip drives and other peripherals; demonstrated successful 
experience in coordinating and networking systems that my cross 
sites, platforms and continents' skill in designing and installing 
hardware and software, and in assisting in the delivery of distance 
learning technology for training and education; demonstrated ability 
to author user guides for custom-designed strong interpersonal and 
communication skills and the ability to work with a culturally 
diverse client base.  Work experience in a research environment, 
including experience in statistical analyses, preferred.  Position is 
limited to one year with extension contingent upon funding.  Submit
