China solicits comment via Internet BEIJING (AP) - In the week since the Chinese government went to the Internet for the first time to solicit public opinion, it has been deluged with ideas about how to lead China into the future. Some have appealed for a serious effort to eliminate corruption. Others want more spending on education. One called the exercise a waste of time until the government grants Chinese real freedom of speech. Since the State Development Planning Commission opened the site on Dec. 1 to solicit views for China's next five-year plan, 3,000 users have checked it out and about a third have left comments.
