FYI... Stefanie Rixecker ECOFEM Coordinator ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- The Women's Studies Program at Binghamton is sponsorin a symposium on Democracy and Feminism that will take place on the 16 and 17 of April, 1999. We believe that feminists have been contributing to democratic theory both directly and indirectly by calling attention to its limitations (for example due to the exclusion of women from the vote, the conflation of democratic and masculine virtues, or the relationship between actual democracy and welfare) and by rethinking its possibilities (whether by re-conceiving the democratic public, re-examining the idea f citizenship, or developing frameworks for the understanding of coalition politics). We would like to bring together to bring together participants from multidisciplinary perspectives who are interested in pursuing the feminist contributions to democratic theory. to bring together participants from multidisciplinary perspectives who are interested in pursuing the feminist contributions to democratic theory.
