Best way to bring a conversation around to the cruelty involved with
eating meat:

Someone: "I love animals!"
Me: "Wow, so you're a vegetarian. I am too. I just can't believe
people think it's okay to eat meat. What a cruel thing to do
to animals. I could never imagine permitting and paying for
such horrible things... [blah blah blah]
Someone: "No, wait a minute. I'm not a vegetarian."
Me: "But... I thought you said you 'love animals.' "
Someone: "Well, yeah, but... "
Me: "Ohhh, so you only love SOME animals and you believe it's okay
to hurt the others. My mistake. I misunderstood."

It's that simple to start such a conversation. I've used this approach
a lot!

Another interesting point is this: Do meat eaters realize that they eat
mostly VEGETARIAN animals?? (except, of course, when meat-by-products are
mixed in with the animals' natural diet, making the animals UNnatural
carnivores!)
