Survey: Harassment in Japan military

TOKYO (AP) - Sexual harassment of female troops is widespread in Japan's
military ranks, according to a Defense Agency survey published in major
newspapers Friday. One in every five female personnel in the Self Defense
Forces said they were either asked or forced to have sex with senior
officers or colleagues, the survey showed. Almost 60% of the female
respondents said they had been touched on parts of their bodies, while over
18% said they had been stalked. The survey, the first of its kind
concerning sexual harassment inside Japan's 250,000-strong military, was
conducted last spring, reported the newspapers, including the Yomiuri -

USDA makes organic meat provision

WASHINGTON (AP) - Consumers who want to expand their menu of organic foods
soon will find organic meat and poultry products on store shelves. The
Agriculture Department agreed Thursday to allow the labels while the agency
continues work on national standards for all organic foods. Organic
certification generally means no pesticides, herbicides or preservatives
have been sprayed on the growing produce. For livestock, organic producers
mostly shun the use of antibiotics and confined feeding areas, opting
instead to give organic animals access to the outdoors, fresh air and
