VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:  Assistant Leader for Wildlife Research, Alabama Cooperative Fish and
Wildlife Research Unit, Biological Resources Division, U.S. Geological Survey and
Assistant Professor of Zoology and Wildlife, College of Science and Mathematics,
Auburn University.

LOCATION:  Auburn, Alabama.  Auburn University serves over 20,000 students.  Auburn,
population approx. 35,000, is located in rural east-central Alabama at the junction
of the Piedmont Plateau and the Coastal Plains, 50 miles northeast of Montgomery and
110 miles southwest of Atlanta.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A Ph. D. is required.  The incumbent must have earned at least one
degree in Wildlife Science or a closely related discipline, with a demonstrated
interest in mammalian wildlife ecology and experience/expertise in forested
landscapes, appropriate skills for university education, and the ability to interact
and cooperate successfully with professional natural resource organizations,
agencies, university faculty, and the public.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Develop a vigorous, extramurally-funded research program that
includes graduate students and addresses both basic and applied questions related to
mammalian populations and communities in forested habitats.  Assist with various
duties in the administration of the Unit and respond to cooperators� requests for
research and technical assistance.  As a member of the graduate faculty, the
incumbent will serve as graduate advisor to master of science and doctoral candidates
and teach one graduate-level course per year in area of expertise.

APPLICATION:  This is a federally funded position at the GS-12 level (Research
Wildlife Biologist GS-0486).  The successful candidate will be an employee of the
Cooperative Research Unit Program, Biological Resources Division, U.S. Geological
