Female lawyer defends Clinton

WASHINGTON (AP) - Following 15 male lawyers, deputy White House counsel
Cheryl Mills made a spirited argument Wednesday that her boss did not deny
a woman her civil rights. "I'm not worried about civil rights, because this
president's record on civil rights, on women's rights, on all of our
rights, is unimpeachable," Mills told the Senate. President Clinton "has
worked every day to give all of us a better deal." Mills opened her
argument in the president's impeachment trial by saying that "as a lawyer,
as an American, and as an African-American," she believed strongly in the
rule of law. Mills joined the White House counsel's office six years ago
when she was 27. She has worked at the center of some of the White House's
