Hi Ecofem,

Logic and current events would suggest an avoidance of corporate processed meat
products in the interim of our veggie debate.

1/23/99
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Thorn Apple Valley is recalling all hot dogs and lunch
combinations produced at its Forrest City, Arkansas, meat processing plant
because of possible contamination with the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, the
Agriculture Department announced Friday.
Thorn Apple Valley recall 1-800-316-2855.

1/16/99
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Fears of contamination are prompting Oscar Mayer Foods Corp.
to recall 28,313 pounds of deli meat from store shelves.

1/15/99
ATLANTA (Reuters) - The death toll from contaminated hot dogs and meat products
included in a voluntary nationwide recall has risen to 12, federal health experts
said Thursday.

Consumers with food safety questions may phone the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline
at 1-800-535-4555. The hotline is staffed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST Monday
through Friday. Recorded information is available 24 hours a day.
