One solution would be to take emphasis off grains and place more emphasis on
nuts and pods. Yields from nut trees per acre far exceeds yield from grain.
Honey locust pods are extremely nutritious, proteinous, and have extremely
high yields per acre. Carob the same. In Russia there are still forests of nut
trees. If we could imagine wild orchards slowly becoming forests, and a la
Fukuoka, edible vines and wild herbs growing through and around those
orchards, we can imagine a system that comes to grow itself. The work being
done on prairie grasses and their edibility could replace wheat, etc.
