Judge stands by rape ruling

ROME (AP) - An Italian judge who ruled that rape is impossible when a woman
is wearing tight jeans is defending the decision attacked from all sides as
sexist and dangerous. "We have complete respect for women. We are
sensitive, very sensitive to the sexual problems that afflict women in
society," Justice Gennaro Tridico said Friday. Added the gray-haired
justice: "I stand by my actions and am ready to repeat them." Tridico is
one of 410 men on the 420-member Court of Cassation, Italy's highest
appeals court in criminal cases. See full story

More snow geese hunting gets OK

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Interior Department said Friday it will allow 24
states to ease restrictions on the hunting of snow geese in an effort to
kill thousands of the birds during their annual migration north from the
Gulf Coast to Canada. By unleashing more hunters onto the birds, the
government hopes to reduce the burgeoning snow geese population. The number
of snow geese has grown so large biologists say the geese are destroying
arctic breeding grounds for a wide range of other migratory birds. But the
action immediately was criticized by the Humane Society of America, which
has long argued the freewheeling use of hunters to reduce the snow geese
populations is inhumane. See full story
