Hello all,
I am writing because I am so steamed I could SCREAM! Please support me on
this! I volunteer to lead a small group of students (20, K-5) at the local
elementary school in an Earth Club. Last meeting we talked about treating
animals ethically. I handed out some stuff that PETA sent me. We
discussed, at the meeting, everything that was handed out. We talked about
what we did and how we lived and some other alternatives (like being
vegetarian, buying products made by companies that don't use animal
testing, etc.) No preaching! Honest!
Today, I got a phone call from the PTA president at school who told me she
had an irrate mom at her door today regarding the material I had sent home
and would I please tone it down... !!!!! Pardon me for trying to expand
the horizons of the unfortunate children here in the vast cultural
wasteland we call the suburbs! I only want to present these kids with some
info so that they will know THERE IS A WORLD OUT THERE!! Do you think I
should drop my plans to enlighten them about pesticides and organic
produce??? Has anyone else run into this? I am not, did not, and will not
try to tell ANYONE how to live--I'd just like the chance to expand a few
horizons. sigh!
Thanks for reading and letting me have a place to vent. It is very
frustrating to be the only "liberal" in a conservative town. It is very
difficult to raise enlightened children who will care for the Earth when
the rest of the community wants to shut out the messages. I'm glad you're
all out there so I know I'm not alone... am I???!
