Tourists Kidnapped in Uganda

 By THE NEW YORK TIMES

NAIROBI, Kenya -- Thirteen foreign tourists and an unknown number of
Ugandans were kidnapped early Monday morning while tracking mountain gorillas
in a forest near Uganda's southwestern border.

Three of the tourists were Americans, said Virgil Bodeen, a spokesman for
the American Embassy. Officials said several of the others were British. The
kidnappers appeared to be Rwandans.
