First of all, please don't apologize for your English, which is
excellent. How many Americans do you know that can even communicate
in a language other than English, much less articulate well formed
ideas?
Second, the crash. It was such a tragedy. And yes, someone should
take responsibility, which the US justice system and the military
certainly don't seem to be doing. I think you are right, the US is
letting itself off the hook because of obscure and inhumane NATO
rules. If an Italian pilot had done the same thing in a ski resort
here, I think the US would fight tooth and nail to extradite him/her
for trial here in the States.

PS - What part of Italy do you live in? I had the fortune to live in
Ivrea for a year when I was younger. Sadly, although I was fluent in
Italian at the time, I have lost it all due to lack of use.
