Teri asked a question about women oppressing women and I feel like I
do this, much to my chagrin. I am a professional with a graduate
degree and a more-than-full time job and no desire to have kids. I
tend to "look down" on other women who have gone through similar
training and then "give it all up" to have kids. I have been slammed
before for questioning why women will get the training to have a
career and then opt to stay at home to raise a family instead...so I
expect to be slammed here as well. I know we have a choice, but why
is it always the women who choose to stay home with the kids? Why do
the women choose to take their husband's name when they marry? It is
still extremely rare for a man to raise kids or take the woman's name,
yet this has become an avoided topic. Is it an insignificant topic?
What do you all think? (Go ahead and yell at me if you want...my skin
is not TOO thin...) I personally kept my own name when we married (it
has only taken my in-laws 13 years to address me by my name!), refuse
to get/wear a wedding ring, and my husband got a vasectomy last year.
