Mavis Leno's testimony regarding the Taliban is on the Feminist Majority
Website
(www.feminist.org) and I encourage everyone to take a look. The AP
article (below) in my opionion tends to misrepresent some of the arguments
Leno makes, particularly in terms of Islam - Leno seems to try to
make the point in her testmony that this situation (Afghanistan) has less
to do with Islam and much
more to do with the Taliban's appropriation of Islam to further thier
political agenda. In other words, she does not "blame Islam" or represent
Islam as "the other" as I think the AP article below tends to do (at least
not to the same degree).
