Send reply to: Women's Studies List <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I have recently received information about one new women-oriented
email list and an update of the invaluable Directory of Scholarly
Electronic Conferences, compiled by Diane Kovacs et al. I thought both
announcements might be of interest to WMST-L readers.

1) Here is info that was just forwarded to me about a list,
SPIDERWOMAN, for women who manage World Wide Web sites. I am including it
on WMST-L because increasing numbers of Women's Studies programs are making
World Wide Web home pages:

As part of the Women's World Wide Web Network, the Spiderwoman
mailing list is meant to support women Web designers by providing a
supportive atmosphere to deal with issues of Web development and
consulting, including:

*HTML coding questions, including advanced discussions of CGI scripts,
 Perl, etc.
*Developing standards for designing Web pages
 *Skills improvement
*Integration of business and social responsibility
 *Starting your consulting business
 *Networking
*Issues of being a female computer consultant/Web developer

 and much, much more!

To subscribe: send message SUBSCRIBE SPIDERWOMAN to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] .

2) Here is information about the latest version of the _Directory of
Scholarly Electronic Conferences_. This is the best source of information
I know about academically oriented email lists. The following
announcement, extracted and abridged from the ACADLIST README file, covers
the following:

1. The revised scope of the 9th Revision Directory
2. The subjects/files available.
3. How to access or retrieve the Directory:

***************
1. Revised Scope of the 9th Revision Directory
***************
This directory contains descriptions of electronic conferences
(e-conferences) on topics of interest to scholars. E-conference is the
umbrella term that includes discussion lists, Internet interest groups,
e-journals, e-newsletters, Usenet newsgroups, forums, etc. In this 9th
revision we have begun including text based virtual reality systems known
as MUDS, MOO'S, Muck's, Mushes, etc. that are primarily for scholarly or
pedagogical activities. Topic descriptions are taken in whole or part from
the descriptions provided by each moderator.
