OK, I have not yet really formed an opinion about the
NATO/US involvement in the Balkans. I mean, I think
that when one can help right an injustice, one should
try to do so. So in a sense, I think it is good that
the outsiders are trying to help the oppressed. But,
I'm not sure that I think that we've gone about it the
correct way. How much bullying was involved in the
peace talks, and how much were they about outsiders
getting what they want, not just helping the ethnic
Albanians? I can't say, without more info than I get
from the mainstream press.

And then there's the bombing. Wouldn't a good old
fashioned assassination be easier/better, by some
definition of easier or better? Are we really hurting
people, civilians, military, the government? Or just
bolstering Milosovic?

Why am I addressing this on this list? Because I think
that war is a major tool of the patriarchy, one of
those old tools we fall back on too often, and it hurts
too many people and other living beings. So I'm
interested in how we got into this and whether there
were other options.

I also am just sick over the US response to the
kidnappings/prisoner takings, whatever, of the 3
American soldiers. Yes, it is horrible. Yes, I feel
for those men and their families and friends. But,
when you put people in those kinds of situations, in
the area of war, how can you expect them to be immune
to the effects of war? Are white men bullet-proof? Do
they walk with invisible force fields around them?
Where do we get off being so indignant, while we're
over there bombing? And if we choose war as an option,
are the lives of hundreds/thousands of Serbs/Albanians,
and anyone else stuck in that mess worth the same as
the lives of 3 Americans?
