     NAPA, Ca., - April 8 -- Women's Stories offers history with a
twist -- the stories are true, they're interesting, and they're all
about women! The new site, based on extensive research, makes history
interesting by focusing on fascinating facts, little-known anecdotes,
and provocative quotations from the week's famous and infamous women,
all in a quick-read format with links to additional Web resources.
Women's Stories (http://writetools.com/women/) is a weekly celebration
for six significant women who were born or achieved some notable
milestone during that week.
"There are loads of great women's history resources on the Web,"
said McFadden, "but who has time to read them? My purpose in creating
Women's Stories is to provide a fun and interesting column that people
can read quickly and enjoy. My short pieces feature women who are
household names, along with significant women who have been ignored
by mainstream history. I write these stories to dish up a little
inspiration, a little knowledge, and a few carefully selected Web
links that offer the opportunity to explore a particular woman and her
accomplishments in more depth."
The women of Women's Stories come from many countries, races, and
historical time periods. Each week is a showcase of the vast diversity
of women and their achievements and talents. A recent column
(http://writetools.com/women/04_02-08.html) featured Englishwoman Jane
Goodall, German intellectual Bettina von Arnim, American reformer
Dorothea Dix, former First Lady Betty Ford, Native American princess
Pocahontas, and Norwegian skating phenomenon Sonja Henie.
Women's Stories is also available as a free weekly e-mail
newsletter, and past columns are archived at the site. "Women's
Stories is my favorite nonpaying job," said McFadden. "The column
gives me the chance to do the type of work I enjoy the most:
researching fascinating subjects, writing interesting pieces, and
sharing my discoveries with others."
McFadden is a former technical writer who leaped onto the Web
almost four years ago and has never looked back. Her credits include
high-profile  content production for Web portals Lycos and Snap.com;
articles for CNET, Astrology.Net, Iautonews.com, Girl Tech, and the
Giga Information Group; and development editing for IDG Books
Worldwide. She also designed, created, and maintains Write Tools
(http://writetools.com), a compilation of the Web's best reference,
job-hunting, business, and efficiency tools for professional
freelancers.
