This four-day symposium is for wolf and wildlife enthusiasts, government agency personnel, biologists, and representatives from environmental organizations. The focus will be wolf recovery and management, with feature presentations by scientists from all over the world. Along with lecture presentations, there will be a wildlife art exhibition, a children's art contest, a meeting of the Wolf Specialist Group of the World Conservation Union (formerly IUCN) and pre- and post-symposium field trips to the International Wolf Center in Ely, Minnesota. Topic areas include: -- status of wolves around the world -- conflict between humans and wolves -- effects of wolves on natural prey -- legal and policy issues affecting wolves -- environmental ethics in wolf restoration -- human population dynamics and land use -- education and public attitudes regarding wolves -- new discoveries in wolf behavior and ecology -- the wolf in human cultures Oral presentations are limited to 20-30 minutes; slides or prepared overheads preferred, but other formats can be accomodated. Horizontal, free-standing, or table-top visual/poster displays are also welcome.
