Man gets prison, fine for polluting TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A man described by prosecutors as an incorrigible and unrepentant polluter was sentenced in federal court Monday to 13 years in prison, the maximum punishment possible. Judge Richard Lazzara also ordered 62-year-old Gary Benkovitz to pay a $14,000 fine. Benkovitz's company, Bay Drum and Steel Inc., cleans, reconditions and resells 55-gallon drums for commercial use. He and the company were charged with releasing more than 4 million gallons of contaminated water and more than 636,350 pounds of sludge as a result of the industrial drum-washing operation.
