Mass. may put 1st woman on court 

BOSTON (AP) - Margaret Marshall, a South African immigrant who has served
on the state Supreme Judicial Court for three years, has been nominated to
be the first female chief justice in its 307-year history. Gov. Paul
Cellucci announced her nomination Thursday. She would succeed Chief Justice
Herbert Wilkins, who retires this month. Her appointment must be approved
by the eight-member Governor's Council. Cellucci said he hopes the council
approves the appointment before Labor Day. The court has been around since

Cops nab 26 Greenpeacers in Denmark 

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - Danish police arrested 26 Greenpeace activists
Friday on a ship that was blocking a harbor to protest a Danish steel
company's alleged emissions of dioxins. Before dawn, officers boarded the
M/V Greenpeace, which had been blocking the sea entrance to the Danish
Steelworks in Frederiksvaerk, 35 miles northwest of Copenhagen, since
Wednesday. The vessel was towed away. The Danish Steelworks recycles scrap
metal. Greenpeace claims the company is Denmark's largest single emitter of
dioxin, a chemical compound linked to cancer, birth defects and other
