The drug is being used to sedate active, young boys because the teachers are unable to relate to them (my note: this isn't only about teachers). It is in the same psychoactive category as cocaine. Somewhere between 29,000 and 48,000 children in Massachusetts' public schools are operating under the influence of Ritalin - and they are almost all boys.
