Hello Comrads!

I was delighted to read Larry Fahn's account of our triumph in Seattle. I
flew from Kingston, Ontario to participate in the work of the Direct Action
Network (DAN), who organized the barricades that circled the convention
center. I have never seen so many beautiful people in one place as I did at
the converted hip hop club that was the center of DAN operations. Picture,
if you will a swelling circle of affinity group representatives studying a
giant map of Seattle with the convention center in the middle, and the area
around it divided into pie segments. People sitting on concrete floors
plotted the successful disruption of WTO activity. That is beautiful.

At the Direct Action Network I participated in nonviolent direct action
training facilitated by Starhawk (!) and other experienced activists. There
were three-hour training sessions in jail solidarity given by the legal
support team. There were how-to sessions on making high- and low-tech
barricades. There was a workshop for making puppets and a even a bicycle
library. We were fed vegan meals and slept in warehouses. I feel so lucky
to have been there.

Cheers for the revolution! See you on the streets,
