FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique - Peggy Bouchet became the
first French woman Wednesday to row across the Atlantic alone,
arriving at the Caribbean island of Martinique after 48 days
at sea. "It is a great joy and a great relief," the 26-year-
old Bouchet said when she arrived. American, Tori Murden
was the first person to make the solo rowing journey,
who finished the trip Dec. 3 after 81 days. On Tuesday,
55-year-old Diana Hoff of Scotland became the oldest
person to row an ocean alone. Bouchet had come within
100 miles of becoming the first woman in the world to
finish last year but then her boat capsized and she had to
be rescued off the coast of neighboring Guadeloupe.
