ARNOVA invites nominations for its 2000 awards, to be presented at the
29th Annual Conference on November 16-18 in New Orleans.

Award for Distinguished Lifetime Achievement in Nonprofit and Voluntary
Action Research (Thomasina Borkman, chair)

This award is given annually for significant contributions to the field
through research, collegial activity, or teaching. Nominees need not be
members of ARNOVA. Please submit a two-page letter of nomination, the
nominee's curriculum vitae, and appropriate supporting materials. Each
nomination should be supported by a primary nomination and a written
second. Either the nominator or the seconder should come from a different
institutional base from the nominee, and at least one should be a member

of ARNOVA. Self-nominations will not be considered. The awardee is
expected to receive the award in person. Cash prize: $1,000.

Award for Outstanding Book in Nonprofit and Voluntary Action Research
(Chair TBA)

This award is given for a single book or monograph published in the three
calendar years preceding the award. Books that contribute to the
advancement of theory, conceptualization, research, or practice are
eligible. Edited volumes, books developed as textbooks, journalistic
accounts, and guides not based on systematic research are ineligible.
Nominations from publishers are welcome.
Cash prize: $1,000.

The Gabriel G. Rudney Memorial Award for an Outstanding Dissertation in
Nonprofit and Voluntary Action Research (Rikki Abzug, chair)

This award is given annually for a Ph.D. dissertation completed and/or
defended in the three calendar years preceding the award. Dissertations
that contribute to the advancement of theory, conceptualization, research,
or practice in an area closely related to nonprofit organizations or
voluntary action are eligible. Nominations are especially invited in the
five issue areas where Gabe Rudney made significant research contributions
during his lifetime: patterns of giving in the U.S., tax policy and
charitable giving, tax policy and the nonprofit sector, the economic
contribution of the nonprofit sector, and comparative international
studies. Nominations are normally submitted by the author's advisor.
Nominations should explain the nature of the work and how well it meets
criteria for excellence in its field, and should be accompanied by five
copies of an extended abstract (approximately five pages). Nominees
should be prepared to send a copy of the full dissertation upon request.
Cash prize: $500.

THE DEADLINE FOR ALL AWARD NOMINATIONS IS MARCH 31, 2000. To submit a
