The Peoples' National Town Hall Meeting, "Earth in the Balance: Primary Choices" March 6, 2000 -- Sacramento, CA On March 6, 2000 -- one day before the pivotal California presidential primary -- an alliance of environmental, labor, religious, farm, small business, peace and justice, campaign finance reform, civil and human rights organizations and leaders will convene a National Town Hall Meeting in Sacramento, California to highlight growing threats to the planet, the citizenry and democracy. This Peoples' Forum, which will include a prestigious panel of national environmental and social justice leaders, will speak to vital issues not being addressed by the major presidential candidates. America and the planet are at a crossroads at the turn of the new millennium. We have a choice: we can continue down our current path of environmental and human destruction, or we can chart a new course predicated on democratic values, compassion, sustainability, and equal rights for all. Following on the heels of the protests in Seattle against the anti-democratic World Trade Organization and its assault on workers, farmers and the environment, The Peoples' National Town Hall Meeting will provide citizens with a forum to demand a national dialogue with the presidential candidates on the most pressing issues of our time. The Peoples' Forum will be held at the Sierra 2 Center Theatre at 2791 24th Street in downtown Sacramento on March 6, 2000 from 7:00-9:00pm (doors will open at 6:00). Presentations by the panelists will be followed by an interactive session with audience members. A reception will follow from 9:00-10:00pm. In the spirit of democracy, we are inviting each of the presidential candidates to attend the forum to hear what issues the people want to see addressed during the presidential campaign. Any candidates who attend will be given an opportunity to address the audience and the assembled media.
