The SLS Environmental Studies Discussion Group invites papers on the theory and practice of analyzing cultures of nature, both historical and contemporary. Possible topics include, but are by no means limited to, the following: � environmental literature, � the cultural work of public natural spaces, � the environmental history of Nature's Nation, � the digital machine in the virtual garden, � neo-romantic naturism and the idea of wilderness, � representations of environmental apocalypse, � ecotourism and uneven development, � jobs vs. trees, � the significance of the Battle of Seattle, � ecological revolutions and red-green symbiosis, � international capitalism and the global environment. We will host a series of panels at the 14th annual Society for Literature and Science conference, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia on October 5-8, 2000, at the Sheraton Colony Square Hotel.
