Biology & Management of Amphibians of Northern California

April 25 - 27, 2000
Korbel Calif.

The California North Coast Chapter of The Wildlife Society will host a two
and one-half day workshop on the Biology and Management of Amphibians of
Northern California. The workshop is designed to familiarize wildlife
biologists with the identification, natural history, survey techniques, and
management of headwater, stream, pond, and terrestrial amphibian species
occurring in Northern California. Species to be addressed include the
southern torrent salamander, tailed frog, mountain and foothill
yellow-legged frogs, northern and California red-legged frogs, Cascade frog,
Siskiyou salamander, Shasta salamander, and the Del Norte salamander.
The workshop will include one and one-half days of lecture and one day in
the field. During the field component participants will be able to observe
local herptofauna and habitat, as well as demonstrations of various survey
techniques. 
Presenters currently confirmed include Dr. Mark Jennings, California Academy
of Sciences; Dave Clayton, USFS; Dr. Lowell Diller, Simpson Timber Co; Gary
Fellers, USGS Biological Resource Division; Peter Lewendal, Mason, Bruce, &
Girard; Dee Dee Olson, USFS, PNW, Forestry Science Laboratory; Lisa
Ollivier, USFS, PSW, Redwood Science Laboratory; and Dr. Hartwell Welsh,
USFS, PSW, Redwood Science Laboratory.
The workshop is limited to 60 participants and will be offered/filled on a
first come first served basis. Registration material will be available soon.
