The Work of Henryk Skolimowski

During the last 25 years Henryk Skolimowski has been at the forefront of ecological
thinking and action. He has created a new philosophy called ECO-PHILOSOPHY as the
foundation for sane ecological thinking and sustainable action. At the same time has
taught in various schools and universities the
principles of reverential thinking and living, as well as attempting to spread the
message of a life style congruent with the age of frugality and an emerging world of
universal justice. In short, since early 1970 he has persistently been working to heal
and save Planet Earth.

Henryk Skolimowski established the Eco-philosophy Centre at Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
in 1981. The Centre's aim has been to spread ideas and introduce activities necessary
for the continuation of sustainable life on our planet. Skolimowski was one of the
first to systematically explore the new
philosophy, centred in ecology, while organising a series of annual Dartington Hall
conferences (1980, 1981, 1982, 1983) on the subject of eco-philosophy. He published
some ten books and numerous articles outlining the field of eco-philosophy as the
basis for new tactics for living. Among these
books the most important are:

Eco-philosophy: Designing New Tactics for Living

Marion Boyars Publishers. 1981

Living Philosophy: Eco-philosophy as a Tree of Life

(Arkana Series) Penguin Books, 1992. This is an outline of a new philosophical system.

A Sacred Place to Dwell: Living with Reverence Upon the Earth

Element Books, 1998. This is an outline of an eco-theology and a new interpretation of
the sacred.
(Copies available for $37.95 incl p&p from Liz Robinson: [EMAIL PROTECTED])

The Participatory Mind: A New Theory of Knowledge and of the Cosmos

(Akana Series) Penguin Books, 1994. This book demonstrates that a new ecological
philosophy must go
hand in hand with a new theory of mind, which makes a new sense of the
holistic/ecological univers
e.

Eco-Yoga: Practice and Meditations for Walking in Beauty on the Earth

Gaia Books, 1994. This is a book of reflections and exercises showing how to translate
the new ecol
ogical awareness into acts of ones own being.

These books are parts of a coherent new system, outlining and justifying the
ecological world view
and its various consequences.

After returning to Poland in 1991, Henryk Skolimowski established a Chair of
Ecological Philosophy
at Technical University of Lodz, the first chair of its kind in the world.

Professor Skolimowski is one of the founders of the Society of Friends of
Eco-philosophy in Warsaw.
He was also one of the founders of the Library of the Ecological Era which has
produced and transl
ated numerous books propagating ecological consciousness and sustainable development.
He has publis
hed a number of books in Polish and was elected to the President's Ecology Council. He
has particip
ated in various educational activities throughout Poland and has given numerous
workshops on eco-ph
ilosophy in Greece, Finland and other countries.

During his various visits to India and through interactions with Indian scholars and
ecological pra
ctitioners, Dr Skolimowski established an eco-philosophy unit at the Agricultural and
Horticultural
University at Solan, in the hills of the Himalaya. In 1965 the Indian Institute for
Ecology and En
vironment established the Dr Henryk Skolimowski International Centre for
Eco-Philosophy in New Delh
i. The Centre helped a World International Congress in 1996 in New Delhi, the main
theme being "Eco
-Philosophy and Eco-Dharma".

Henryk Skolomowski's complete bibliography lists 35 books, printed in various
languages, and nearly
 400 articles.

"We venerate old spiritualities. Yet we need to dwell in a spirituality for our times
. . . a spiri
tuality which is part of the living substance of our times, a spirituality which
responds to our pr

in daily act
ion, and which helps to heal." A Sacred Place to Dwell
